Force & Brothers' role
  • Development of the blended training programme
  • Visibility and dissemination
01

The need

In Türkiye, women and girls subjected to violence faced significant barriers in accessing the legal support they needed, arising from lawyers’ lack of specialist knowledge and from insufficient inter-institutional cooperation. To provide victims with accurate and effective support, lawyers needed to be equipped with knowledge and skills specific to cases of violence, and cooperation between the bar associations and civil society organisations working in this field needed to be strengthened. In response to this need, UNDP, the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Türkiye set up victim support offices in six provinces and delivered specialist training for lawyers through the second phase of ILAP.

02

Force & Brothers’ approach

Force & Brothers developed the blended training programme for lawyers, integrated the knowledge and skills needed in cases of violence into the programme, and carried out the project’s visibility and dissemination activities.

03

Outcome

By the end of the programme’s second phase, victim support offices had become operational in six provinces and lawyers had been equipped with specialist knowledge specific to cases of violence. With stronger cooperation between bar associations and civil society organisations, and with the support of visibility activities, access to legal aid for women and girls subjected to violence gained a stronger institutional structure.
