A scholarship programme supporting the education and social development of female university students studying in earthquake-affected regions.
The need
This scholarship programme was launched because female students studying in the provinces affected by the 6 February earthquakes, facing growing economic hardship, had no access to regular financial support or to a social solidarity network that would allow them to continue their university education. It was also clear that financial support alone was not enough and that a structure enabling students to connect with one another and share experiences was needed. In response to this need, the Yasemin Açık Foundation launched the Girls Keeping Their Region Alive Scholarship Programme (“Bölgesini Yaşatan Kızlar”) for female university students in the earthquake-affected provinces.
Force & Brothers’ approach
Force & Brothers supported the development and design of the programme, contributed to building a programme structure in which scholarship support is delivered alongside meetings and workshops with students, and developed the infrastructure for scholar selection and communication, ensuring that the process was monitored.
Outcome
In its first year, the programme reached 98 students studying at universities in Elazığ and Malatya, and in the following period its scope was extended to Bingöl, Elazığ, Malatya and Tunceli. In this way, the programme has not only provided regular financial support but has also built a lasting structure in which scholars meet one another, share experiences and access the social support they need while continuing their education.
