The need

The energy demand created in school buildings by a student population that grew with migration left the existing infrastructure inadequate in terms of both environmental sustainability and cost. The failure to switch to clean and efficient solutions for meeting energy consumption in schools created a gap that both increased operating costs and limited the development of students’ awareness of renewable energy. In response to this need, the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye and KfW Development Bank designed a 14 MW ground-mounted solar power plant, installed systems with a total capacity of 6 MW on the roofs of 120 schools and carried out energy efficiency improvements in 41 schools. Construction of a total of 8 lightweight steel school buildings was completed, 6 in Kahramanmaraş province and 2 in Osmaniye province.

02

Force & Brothers’ approach

Force & Brothers carried out the visibility, communication and dissemination work for the investment, prepared informative content on the environmental and economic impacts of the technical works and organised renewable energy and energy efficiency activities for students.

03

Outcome

The project also aimed to use the savings achieved through its renewable energy and energy efficiency investments for new education investments, to develop good practices that could serve as an example for other institutions and to raise children’s awareness of clean energy and energy saving. Through visibility and awareness-raising work, students were informed about renewable energy and energy efficiency, and the environmental and economic benefits of the investment were shared effectively with the education community.
